Established in May 2012, Shine On International Trust is a registered non-profit, highly ethical and people-oriented organisation that was created to seek and advance social justice for the disabled and deprived communities, and to assist their transition through learning, skills enhancement and resource provision.
At Shine On International Trust we deal with multi-dimensional and multi-faceted social and economic issues that affect the entire rank and file of people with disabilities.
We actively seek to foster the economic and social inclusion of many disabled community groups, which have hitherto remained disadvantaged and marginalised, through facilitation and the provision of sustainable socio-economic projects and undertakings. Central to our objectives is the goal of capacity building in order to empower people with disabilities by putting them on a pedestal of achieving their full potential and by facilitating real and visible, sustained personal growth and development. The aim is to eliminate the natural inclination to dependency on government grants (which are elusive by the way) and encouraging self-sustenance through positive personal vocational engagement in order to tackle issues confronting them in all dimensions and spheres of their lives.
Our deliberate focus on capacity building naturally stems from the generally held economic fact that the socio-economic uplifting of marginalised and disadvantaged groups within a society is imperative for a complete & overall national development and for the general good of the country.
Shine On International Trust also actively supports sporting programmes for people with disabilities and readily provides information on HIV/AIDS, as well as publicly advocating for equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
Our role in consultancy services extends to corporate bodies in persuading them to produce consumer goods that are ‘disability-sensitive,’ or ‘disability-friendly,’ like, for instance, products that are deliberately packaged for easy identification and recognition by the blind just by mere touch. It is also our considered view that even in commercial settings where institutions render services to the public, the front people disseminating information and rendering such services be trained to be disability-sensitive when serving and helping people with disabilities.
We have increasingly become a beacon of hope to many people through our structured counselling service provision, which has seen us facilitating successful remedial intervention in many dire situations. It is most gratifying to be part of a solution that lasts, and to see people getting back on their feet after resolving conflict, obstacles and impediments. To this end it is worth noting that we have internalised the broad counselling values of confidentiality, privacy, dignity, respect, sensitivity, being non-judgmental and not being condescending.
Further, at Shine On International Trust we attempt to ably manage complex situations in communities by offering relevant simple interventionist strategies and personal solutions. Thus far, our record and footprint has been that of selflessness and utmost dedication towards the uplifting of the disadvantaged. We want to be part of the solution and to see our contribution translate into tangible benefits for the beneficiaries – a real transformation of lives for the better! We want to equip them in ways that make them excel and go above and beyond the call of duty in their careers and spheres of engagements!
