Shine On International Trust has responded to the call of helping people with disabilities on three strategic initiatives:
- Provision of skills in computer training and information communication technology (ICT) to the disabled
- Entrepreneurship training programmes for the disabled, and
- Advocating for equal opportunities and the mainstreaming of policies and human rights for the disabled
We have embarked on, and successfully conducted three well-attended ICT workshops in Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare and Harare. We have also been deeply involved in advocating for the tenet of ‘equal opportunities to all’ to be extended to people with disabilities in a genuinely true and practical manner. It is our conviction that if employers won’t employ people with disabilities, then the people with disabilities will have to step up and create jobs to sustain themselves and their communities, thereby also contributing to the country’s GDP.
Mobility canes
Since 2020 we started a program to support the blind with mobility canes. Since then, we have been able to give 45 mobility canes (white sticks) to the blind in Zimbabwe. Our target is young people especially between 18–35 years for our hope is the mobility cane would empower them, improve their independence and for safety as they move around in their communities. We hope to increase the number of mobility canes with help from partners, sponsors or donors. If you want to become a mobility cane partner, please contact us on the email or via Facebook #Shine on International Trust
